Southern Backyard Grilled Honey-Chipotle Chicken and Shrimp Skewers

Full of flavor, this delicious recipe is anything but boring! In all of my time grilling for family, friends, and crowds, skewer dishes have not let me down yet! We are keeping our backyard barbeques fun and easy this summer with these Grilled Honey-Chipotle Chicken and Shrimp Skewers.

I love this recipe because while it is, obviously, great for summertime serving, it is an amazing “any day of the week” dish because of how simple it is. The best part though? The kids actually love it too!

Speaking of family, the best beverage to pair this southern backyard barbeque dish with is my mama’s Honey and Mint Lemonade.

As a mom, knowing where the food I buy comes from is so important. With all of the processed foods, preservatives, trans fats, sodiums, and etc., I try to make an effort to opt-in for the healthiest, most naturally grown foods when I can to reduce my and my family’s consumption of the “extra stuff”.

Believe it or not, there is a dark side to the honey industry where producers will mix, heat, and filter their honey. That process removes ALL of those nutrients, throwing away all of those natural health benefits.

As Pure Southern Honey customers, parents can rest assured knowing that the honey you buy is the exact same honey I feed my own children. Our customers are so important to us and we would never sell anything that we would not let our own family consume.

We take so much pride in our honey and honeycomb deriving entirely from our thousands of beehives and being 100% raw, unfiltered, and never heated. We know how difficult it is to source high-quality honey and with so many people relying on the nutritional benefits of our honey, especially during allergy season in southern Georgia, we changed our business from selling primarily to wholesalers to directly to the honey consumers who need it.

Ingredients

  • 1 Pound of Chicken Breasts
  • 1/2 a bag of Medium Uncooked Shrimp
  • 1 Cup of Pure Southern Honey
  • 1 Bottle of Barbeque Sauce
  • 1 Red Pepper
  • 1 Green Pepper
  • 1 Yellow Onion
  • 2 Tsp Chipotle Seasoning
  • 2 Tsp Garlic Pepper Seasoning
  • Salt

Instructions

I know this is not everyone’s favorite part, so we’ll go ahead and get this one out of the way first! Begin by peeling and cleaning your uncooked shrimp and set aside. Rinse and pat dry your chicken breasts with a paper towel. Chop your chicken and vegetables into one-inch pieces. In a bowl, mix your chipotle seasoning, garlic pepper seasoning, and 1/16 tsp of salt. Season the chicken and shrimp with this mixture. Once thoroughly coated, place chicken and shrimp into a large resealable or Ziploc plastic bag. In another bowl, combine barbeque sauce and honey (I usually add a little more chipotle seasoning to the bowl too.) Put your chopped vegetables and 3/4 of your sauce mixture into the bag, then set the rest aside for now. Swish and shake all around to ensure every piece is thoroughly coated. Stick in the fridge to marinate for at least an hour.

Once those good honey barbeque juices have all marinated inside the chicken, shrimp, and vegetables, it’s time to bust out the skewers and begin assembly! Oil the grates on your grill and pre-heat on medium-high heat. Once your skewers are all assembled cook them for about 15 minutes, rotating every 3 minutes. At about 10 minutes in, start layering the rest of your sauce onto your skewers. Once your chicken is no longer pink in the center and your shrimps are pink and have a gorgeous brown coating on them, drizzle a little honey across your dish, place your skewers on top, and serve!
