Mama’s Simple Raw Honey and Mint Lemonade Recipe

Hot summer days call for refreshing cold drinks! This beautifully delightful Raw Honey and Mint Lemonade Recipe will either make you feel like you’re on vacation or right at home! Mama has been making lemonade from scratch ever since I can remember, and this special recipe comes straight from her. Whether you’re rocking on your front porch or preparing for backyard barbeque festivities, lemonade is already refreshing but this is the ultimate summer thirst quencher.

Refreshing, light, and made with freshly-squeezed lemons it doesn’t get more homemade and natural than this. While this is a summer staple, I just want to take a minute to quickly talk about some of the health benefits you get from this one simple drink. 100% raw and unfiltered honey and lemons? Could it get any better than that? There are a countless number of nutrients, antioxidants, and vitamins present in these ingredients, but what are some of the benefits of them in one glass? Honey is not only a much healthier alternative to sugar in your lemonade, but it also can improve cholesterol, lower blood pressure, suppress coughs and throat irritation, counter pollen allergies, and so much more! The amount of vitamin C in lemons can be so powerful for preventing asthma and increasing iron absorption. Both of these powerful ingredients also have shown immune-boosting, anti-cancer, and weight-loss benefits. The definition of a superfood by Medical News Today is “foods that offer maximum nutritional benefits for minimal calories. They are packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.” Since both honey and lemons are considered “superfoods” I guess this would technically make this sweet beverage a “super drink”?

If you are facing a REALLY hot and humid Georgia day, try blending this beverage into a frozen drink! Using all of the same ingredients, add everything into a blender and just add a cup of ice per serving. You want to blend until it is a smooth slushie texture. Honey harvesting time is right in the hottest months of the summer and I often found myself needing something that had an extra kick of chill to beat the heat, so discovering this simple trick was such a game-changer. Truly nothing beats the feeling of drinking a nice cool refreshment after being out in the hot sun for hours or even five minutes, depending on Georgia’s mercy.

If you are looking for something a little more on the sour and tart side, try swapping the lemons for limes, creating a Raw Honey and Mint Limeade instead! Unquestionably a tangy citrus pop that will quench your thirst in any summertime heat.

Ingredients

  • 1 Tbsp Raw Honey
  • 1 Lemon
  • 1 Lemon Slice
  • 1 Cup of Water
  • 1 Sprig of Fresh Mint

Instructions

This Honey and Mint Lemonade Recipe is for only one serving, for each additional serving simply increase each ingredient by one. Using some pressure, roll the lemon back and forth on your counter letting some of the juices on the inside break up. An alternative way to release the juices is also to microwave them for 30 seconds. Wash and then cut the lemon, squeeze the juice straight into your glass. Add your tablespoon of Pure Southern Honey and take a spoon and mix with juice. Once thoroughly mixed, add in your cup of water and stir. Toss in your mint leaves and put lemonade in the fridge to let set for at least 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, garnish with a lemon slice and I always drizzle just a little bit of honey on top, just because!
